There really is no better hobby in my opinion than learning how to play guitar and if you spend a few hours a week practicing you will have the necessary skills to be playing in a band in under a year.

I remember the first time I played in a band, years ago now, what a buzz it was I'll never forget getting on stage and being blown away by the crowd shouting and dancing the night away to what we were playing, what a high.

So no matter what your dreams are just get started now and learn guitar, you'll never regret it and could be earning a living in a band or teaching guitar to others in no time as long as apply a bit of dedication to it.
